Indisctinctly inscribed on a document held by the sitter, three quarter length wearing period costume & garter, oil on panel, contained in a 20th century bespoke water gilded frame.

*Purchased by the present vendor from Sotheby's in 1972.

Condition

Bitumen is evident in the background colour, particularly to top left hand corner, some minor craquelure to sitters' head, some discoloured restoration to right hand side.
Repaired scratch through costume.

Lawrences Auctioneers present a Winter Fine Art Sale.

The two day auction featuring includes fine art, furniture, decorative arts, jewellery, silver, clocks and watches.

Highlights include a gentleman's 18ct gold Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day-Date and an automatic 18ct gold Tourbillon by Audemars Piguet in the watch section, alongside a Swiss gold musical snuff box. The jewellery section offers Art Deco, Victorian and Edwardian pieces, including a diamond and black enamel ladybird brooch by Cartier and an Art Deco diamond bracelet.

The fine art and furniture highlights include an early 18th century Irish mahogany bureau bookcase from Creech Grange and a pair of 19th century marble urns on plinths. Amongst the portraits on offer is one by Arthur Ambrose McEvoy and the other paintings include a coastal scene by William Joy. Collectors will also find items like a handpainted 1933 album of Chinese shop signs and a Queen Anne gilt gesso looking glass.
